10 Ways to Add Pops of Color to Your Kitchen

Share This:

Many people often choose a neutral color scheme for their kitchen design. This is an excellent option for many reasons. It allows your kitchen design to last a longer period of time than it would if you select trendy colors. A neutral color scheme also provides you with the ability to change decorative items without having to make drastic changes to the whole kitchen. For some, however, a completely neutral scheme lacks that burst of color that is needed to keep the kitchen feeling fresh and bright. Adding pops of color can create a visually appealing look to your kitchen, and can be done with these ten simple ideas.

Light Fixtures

One way that you can add a pop of color to your kitchen is with lighting fixtures. Choosing chandeliers or pendant lights that are vibrantly colored give your kitchen that little boost of color it needs. The advantage is that light fixtures are relatively inexpensive and can be changed without much difficulty. In a white kitchen, you can choose pendant lights that have shades of just about any color.

Kitchen Sink

Kitchen sink designs have drastically changed over the past few decades. Gone are the days where your only option was white porcelain or stainless steel. You can add a pop of color to the kitchen by choosing a colored sink basin that complements the other accent pieces in the room.

Appliances

Similar to kitchen sinks, the design of kitchen appliances has changed over the years. Your options include more than the traditional almond, white, black and stainless, and you can now purchase custom-colored appliances in a wide array of colors, including blue, orange, green, and red to name a few. These can be changed out to alter the appearance of your kitchen without making drastic changes to the design.

Floors

When choosing the color of your flooring for a neutral kitchen, most people would choose a neutral floor. While you can add a pop of color with brightly colored tile flooring, you must really love the color. Changing a floor can be an expensive project, so this may not be the solution for you. However, you can add pops of color on the floor with rugs or mats that can be easily changed, not to mention less expensive.

Cabinetry Walls

Many kitchen designs feature glass front cabinet doors or even open shelving units. Adding a pop of color is simple in this instance. Paint the back walls of the cabinetry a bright color. Many people opt for bold colors, such as bright blues, reds, yellows, greens, and orange. The benefit is that paint is relatively inexpensive and changing the color can really alter the visual feeling in your kitchen.

Kitchen Furniture

To add an eye-catching element to your kitchen without going overboard, you can select colored furniture. Adding bright red chairs, for instance, to a kitchen island or dining table in an all-white kitchen can really make a statement. You can also add patterns and textures to add more pops of color.

Kitchen Island

If your kitchen has the space to add a kitchen island, you could use this element as the perfect way to add a pop of color to the space. We recommend you keep the granite countertop color the same throughout the space, and opt for white cabinetry everywhere. However, painting the cabinets of the island a bright color, such as green, can really make the space feel fresh and vibrant.

Wallpaper or Paint

Painting walls or installing wallpaper is an excellent way to add a pop of color. To keep the room from being overwhelming, however, we recommend choosing an accent wall to add the color too. For instance, many people opt for the space behind the stove and above the counters – backsplash – to add the color. This creates a focal point in the kitchen.

Backsplash

As was mentioned, the backsplash is an excellent area to add bright colors. You can choose from a variety of different materials to help create depth and add texture. Tile is most often used for backsplashes, and can be changed with minimal difficulty. Other materials that can be used include an accent paint color, wallpaper, and metallic materials. These options are even easier to change out than tile, and are often less expensive.

Ceiling

One of the last places you would expect to add a pop of color is the ceiling. Ceilings can be painted a different color than the rest of the space, which helps bring the eye up and make the room feel larger. We recommend choosing a light or bright color, as opposed to a dark one. Dark colors tend to bring the ceiling down, making the room feel smaller.

From flooring and appliances, to ceiling paint and backsplashes, there are many ways to add pops of color to your kitchen. You could also opt for a brightly colored granite countertop to add that pop, but we recommend choosing a color that is versatile with many design styles, such as blue or green, allowing your kitchen design to last.
